Federal Member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon today announced that computers, provided through the Australian Government National Secondary School Computer Fund, have been delivered to six schools in the electorate of Hunter.
Kurri Kurri High School has installed 151 computers, Rutherford High School has installed 245, Muswellbrook High School has installed 135, Scone High School has installed 98, Merriwa Central School has installed 22 and Mount View High School has installed 249 following a successful application to the Fund.
The National Secondary School Computer Fund is a $2.3 billion commitment over seven years providing grants to secondary schools for laptops, desktop computers, and other technologies.
All secondary schools in Australia have now been provided the opportunity to obtain funds to bring them to a 1 to 2 computer to student ratio, including funding to address on-costs associated with deployment of additional computers.
Funding to reach a 1 to 1 ratio is now being provided on a per capita basis through a National Partnership Agreement with State and Territory education departments and through Funding Agreements with Catholic and Independent education authorities.
To date, the Australian Government has granted funding for over 676,000 computers in more than 2,900 secondary schools reach a 1 to 1 computer to student ratio.
“This investment by the Government is a vital step towards creating a world class education system for Australia and delivering a Digital Education Revolution,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.
“Every student in Years 9 to 12 will benefit from the fund over seven years,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.
